The vibrant atmosphere of sportsmanship and camaraderie enveloped Ladyhill English Higher Primary School Grounds as it played host to the much-anticipated Taluk-Level Volleyball under 14 Boys and Girls Tournament on 23rd August 2023. The event, which saw the participation of several schools from the region, was graced by the honorable presence of Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation Mr Jayanand Anchan, Corporator Mrs Sandhya Mohan Acharya, Joint secretary of Ladyhill institutions Sr. Violet Tauro and Mr. James Cutinha, Block Education Officer, Mangalore North along with other guests.
The tournament commenced with a spirited opening ceremony that united the school band, athletes, coaches, and supporters to march towards the spirit of healthy competition. The presence of esteemed dignitaries on the stage and the welcome speech by the Headmistress Sr. Jennifer Moras AC lent an air of significance to the event. The event was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the esteemed guests on the stage. The Mayor of Mangalore city corporation in his address to the athletes emphasized the importance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and a competitive spirit among students. He commended the efforts of the participating teams and highlighted the role of such events in promoting community engagement.
The matches were held on two courts simultaneously, ensuring a seamless flow of action throughout the day. Spectators were treated to a display of skillful serves, powerful spikes, and agile saves, all of which underscored the dedication of the young athletes.
As the tournament progressed, the matches grew in intensity, with each team vying for victory. Finally Under 14 Boys Infant Mary English Medium School Kattipalla won first place and Ladyhill English Higher Primary School won second place. In under 14 girls, Bharathi English Medium School Kulai won the first place and Morning Star English Medium School , Bajpe were the runners up.
The closing ceremony was a fitting end to the event, where trophies, medals, and certificates were awarded to the winning and runner-up teams, as well as to players who exhibited outstanding performances by the chief guest Mr Bharath, Physical Education Incharge of Mangalore North along with other esteemed guest and well wishers. They lauded the participants for their dedication and encouraged them to continue pursuing their passion for sports.
The Taluk-Level Volleyball Tournament not only provided a platform for healthy competition but also fostered a sense of unity and camaraderie among the participating schools. It showcased the potential of sports to bring communities together and inspire the youth to strive for excellence.
